Following global financial collapse, the United States has divided itself into seven Sovereign Nations.

A decade later, the Sovereign States of America has become an unruly place. Law and order is kept by enforcers or “collectors” who are employed by local crime bosses, tyrants, or whichever nefarious characters have managed to take control of the power structure.

Bessa Reeves is a sympathetic, everywoman by day and a ruthless “ferryman” at night, specializing in helping those with the means to escape to a better place. After an especially brutal job, Bessamust physically change her face and begrudgingly becomes part of a secret rebellion meant to reunite the country.

The Last Ranger, written by Daryl Spivey and illustrated by Raymund A. Bermudez, imagines The United States of America has collapsed and divided itself into self-governing territories now known only as the Sovereign States of Liberty.

But “Liberty” is nowhere to be found. Of all the lessons Bessa Reeves learned from her father, “value life” is what she remembers most. Coming of age in a society ruled by corruption and violence she holds out for the hope of a better future. Even if she has to break a few bones to make that happen.
